The Museum Drachten, also called Museum Dr8888 (formerly Museum Smallingerland), is a museum located in the center of Drachten, on the museum square.
Museum Dr8888 organizes once a year a large exhibition that occupies the entire museum. In addition to that, smaller temporary exhibitions are also being compiled. The permanent collection that is regularly shown mainly consists of the work of Frisian artists such as Pier Pander, Sjoerd de Roos and Anne Feddema. There is a collection of Drachter artists who worked in the De Stijl tradition, such as Evert Rinsema and Thijs Rinsema. There are also works by the Dadaist Kurt Schwitters and the Dutchman Theo van Doesburg. Van Doesburg was active in social housing in the Papegaaienbuurt in the center of Drachten. Just as there is a Rinsema wing, that is the only permanently fixed part of the museum.
The collection also consists of works by traditional artists from the province as Ids Wiersma, Sierd Geertsma, but also works from the period of post-war Frisian expressionism are shown, among others, by Jan van der Bij, Klaas Koopmans Pier Feddema and Gerrit Benner.
