Mark Verstockt passed away.

The Belgian geometric artist Mark Verstockt passed away at the age of 83. On the occasion of his eightieth birthday, the artist got a retrospective at Verbeke Foundation.

Last year Kunstzolder.be showed collected works of the artist during the exhibition Collection'13. In the last publication of our gallery of the work of Geneviève Claisse Ernest Van Buynder described the artist in the context of geometric abstraction. Along with artists like Guy Vanden Branden and Gilbert Decock Mark Verstockt was one of the leading artists of the second generation geometric abstracts in Belgium. During his entire career, Verstockt did research into the origins of the form.

The square and the cube in all its forms are the common thread throughout his career. Internationally, the artist is known for his book "The Genesis of the form" from 1982. He spent over twenty years working on it. On Saturday, May 24th at 2 pm, there is a memorial service at the Verbeke Foundation.
