Geneviève Claisse is a French artist who lives and works in Paris.
As a student and assistent of Auguste Herbin, who lived in the same village in Northern France, she was touched by abstract art, and in particular by the gemetrische abstraction after World War II. In 1958 she got her first major solo exhibitions in Paris and Cambrai. Although the composition of her first paintings are reminiscent of the style of Herbin, her work already has its own recognizable style.
Just like artists like Guy Vandenbranden, Mark and Luc Peire Verstockt in Flanders, it remains very loyal to geometric abstraction. Her work can be seen in various museums and was shown by several galleries, foundations and museums worldwide.
